Overview

Alpine are an electrical company that have been at the forefront of in-car audio, among other areas, since 1967. They were founded in Japan and have pushed the boundaries of in-car audio entertainment ever since their inception. In 1983 they created the first ever remote controlled security system while in 1998 they produced the world’s smallest CD auto changer.

Alpine car audio has been the bread and butter of the company’s success since they went into business. Perhaps their most recognisable product line, the Alpine car audio or headunit as they are otherwise known allow you to play your favourite CDs on long car journeys. Some models even allow you to connect your iPod to the headunit, while all models have radio tuners built in.

The newest Alpine car audio product is the CDE-123R and aims to meet increasing demand for headunits to connect not just to iPods but a wide range of portable devices. With this Alpine stereo you can now connect to a USB device or Nokia mobile, while the favourite key allows you to select your preferred source at the touch of a button, rather than cycling through numerous options.

Some Alpine stereos like the CDE-126BT and the CDE-125BT harness Bluetooth technology to allow you to connect wirelessly to a phone or other device. This is a perfect solution to a hands free kit allowing you to answer and end calls at the touch of a button. You can hear the conversation through your car’s speakers while talking through the provided microphone. Other products like the more standard CDE-112Ri offer iPod connectivity through an auxiliary connection while also providing USB connections.

Continuing their tradition of leading the way in Alpine car audio the company also offers speakers, amplifiers and subwoofers that will fit in your car. Alpine speakers come in varying degrees of power and price. Most expensive are the Type-X range that provide you with the best sound quality for your money.

The Type-R Alpine speakers are a new range and aim to deliver extreme power while still maintaining sound clarity. The Type-S and Type-G ranges are more suited to those on a budget but still pride themselves on the ability to deliver good sound quality, though they may not be as powerful. Alpine speakers also offers custom fit ranges along with individual sub woofers and amplifiers to really beef up your sound. If a choice of multiple CDs is more your thing then Alpine car audio also offers you a CD changer in the form of the DHA-S690 which allows you to change between six CDs.

Away from in-car audio Alpine also produce a range of satellite navigation systems, in-car monitors that allow you to watch DVDs. In addition you can choose between a digital media receiver and a mobile media station if an Alpine stereo isn’t quite what you are after. These items are a step up from the standard head unit, often encompassing all your in-car audio and video needs into one module, including navigation.
