one in quite a while, then you might be surprised at just how great they can make your hair look. Using a good hairdryer makes styling your hair easier, so we’ve got some tips for you on what to look out for when choosing a new hairdryer.Fast Drying
More wattage means that your hair dries faster, which in turn means less damage to your hair. Look for a minimum of 1500 watts, but around 1800 watts will work the best. If you’ve got thick hair that takes a while to dry, you could even look at hairdryers with up to 2200 watt of power.
Settings
Look for a hair dryer with variable speed settings. The temperature settings are a really important factor when choosing a hair dryer. Using adjustable speeds and temperature settings will help reduce hair damage. Heat settings mean that you can use a high heat for soaking wet hair and low heat for damp hair. A cool shot button is a nice feature for setting curls with a blast of cool air or for volume styling.
For thermal styling, look for a model that’s lightweight and offers several heat settings and air flow options.
Make sure the model you choose has a removable lint filter and take the time to clean it regularly. This will extend the life of your appliance.
Diffusers
Diffuser attachments fit on to the nozzle of your hair dryer. They’re ideal when you want to reduce the intensity of the air stream by spreading it out over the surface of your hair. A great tool for drying curly or wavy hair or gently drying hair set in rollers. Look for a diffuser with a cup shape (hollow inside rather than flat on the surface), which allows you to pile hair in from the end to roots, or a model with long fingers which will get right inside your curly hair and gently dry it.
To use a diffuser tilt your head forward and aim the diffuser upwards so that the warm air circulates freely through your hair.
Cheap versus expensive hairdryers

Tourmaline hairdryers have a coating of ground tourmaline, a semiprecious stone that emits six times more negative ions than regular ionic dryers.
Tips if you use your hair dryer every day
Hair is prone to dryness when it’s blow-dried regularly, so you should keep it hydrated by using a moisturising
shampoo and conditioner. If your hair is really dry, consider a deep-conditioning conditioner or masque.
It’s important to protect your hair from the heat created by hairdryers, so consider using a hair protection spray to your damp hair before drying. This can help to minimise the risk of frizz, dryness and breakage.
Your hair will really benefit if you use a lower heat setting. If possible, consider using the coldest heat setting on your hair dryer. If you’re short of time, then opt for the medium setting. Try to stay clear of the highest heat setting.
If your hair takes a long time to dry, look for a lightweight one so your arms don’t get tired.
The easiest way to keep hair frizz away when using a hair dryer is to use the ‘cool air’ setting. Before drying your hair, whether you plan to use the cold or hot settings, always be sure that your hair dryer is damp and not dripping wet. Trying to blow-dry hair that’s sopping wet will damage the cuticle and could cause split ends. To ensure that all of your hair is dried, separate your hair and dry it in sections.
