Buying Guide - Eyeliner
Choosing the right eyeliner
eyeliners and you can use a dark eyeshadow too. Prices vary widely, from 49p for a W7 Cosmetics Liquid Eye Liner, to £13 for an Urban Decay Liquid Liner. When applied correctly, eyeliner can give you a dramatic look without much time or effort. So to get the look you want to achieve we’ve got some tips to help.Brown, bronze and plum colours are ideal for lighter eyes, whilst black works well for dark eyes. For brown eyes, a rich green can look amazing, whilst silver and charcoal are best if you have green or blue eyes. If you have green eyes you could try reddish-brown colours and if you’re blue-eyed, you’ll be able to carry off gold.
For soft definition, pencil eyeliners works well. Liquid eyeliners are ideal for precision and a dramatic look, whilst powder liners can give either a soft or a dramatic look depending on how much you apply.
Pencil Eyeliner
If you use a pencil eyeliner make sure the tip is sharp to get the best result. Warm the pencil tip with your hairdryer for a few seconds, this will soften it so that it’s smoother and easier to apply.
Liquid Eyeliner
Liquid eyeliner can be really fiddly and difficult to apply…unless you know how. Firstly, before applying it, check that it isn’t clumpy or that you have too much on your brush.
Eyeshadow as eyeliner
If you’re using an eyeshadow as eyeliner eye make up, wet a flat eye make up brush with a drop of water. Wipe the brush across your eyeshadow as evenly as you can. Don’t apply too much pressure – the key is to pick up a small and even amount of eyeshadow on your brush.
Applying eyeliner
- Tilt your head back slightly and half open your eyes.- If you’re right handed use your left index finger and pull your eyelid gently to the side and slightly up toward the far end of your eyebrow.
- Draw a line across your upper lid on the lash line as close to your lashes as possible.
- If you’re using liquid eyeliner, let it dry before opening your eyes all the way, this will stop it from smudging.
- To get a softer look smudge the line with a brush, a cotton wool bud or your finger.
- If you make a mistake, simply use a cotton wool bud dipped in eye make up remover.
- To line your lower lid, start at the outside edge and draw a line as close to your lower lashes as you can and move in towards your nose. Your line should be slightly thicker at the outside corner, becoming thinner as you move inwards.
