Buying Guide - Panasonic plasma TVs

Overview

Panasonic are renowned for their plasma televisions and they specialise in sizes over 42 inches. If you are looking for the biggest and best plasma then the Panasonic range is a good place to start.

A Panasonic plasma TV is ideal if you want a large sized display – normally over 42 inches – and they fit excellently in to your home cinema system. Plasmas have perfectly flat displays which eradicate edge distortion and they provide the best viewing angles – with some models offering 170° - which is perfect if you have a large living room and a lot of people watching. If you are looking for a smaller sized TV, however, then an LCD TV is probably the better and cheaper option.

If you are looking for an affordable Panasonic plasma TV then the VIERA C2 Series offers HD at a budget price. A 42 inch Panasonic plasma television is the smallest size you can buy and the C2 Series ranges from this size up to 50 inches. This series only offers 720p resolution quality but is an excellent entry model. The VIEIRA X3 range also offer budget plasma screens with similar specifications and sizes.

The step up from this is the VIERA S2 and U2 Series which offer a better picture – with 1080p resolution. If you want a Panasonic 50 inch plasma TV then that is the top model in the U2 Series but the S2 Series offer models up to 65 inches. The Panasonic VIERA S30 Series have a range of TVs from 42 – 60 inches too that offer 1080p resolution with an Infinite Black panel. This is the new phosphor technology used in the higher end 3D plasma models and it helps improve the performance of the 2D TV.

If you are going all out for a huge plasma television then you might want to consider going that extra mile and considering full HD 3D Panasonic plasmas. The VIERA VT25 Series are the new 3D plasmas that have 1080p Infinite Black Pro panel – which helps process the 3D images faster – and a 5,000,000:1 native contrast ratio. The Panasonic plasma 50 inch is the smallest sized display in the range with 65 inches the top-end model. If you are looking for a 3D plasma, but with a smaller price tag than the top range VT25, then consider the GT30 Series.

When choosing which size Panasonic plasma TV to go for it might not be a case of bigger is better. There are viewing recommendations for the best viewing distance – so it is worth considering these and finding a TV that fits into your room. A 42 inch screen display is best viewed from 10 to 14 feet away while it’s recommended a 50 inch television looks best from 12 to 16 feet away. Rather than purchase a large TV, and end up sitting too close to the screen because your living room isn’t big enough, you should opt for a smaller model. As well as maximising your watching experience this will probably save you money. 60 inch displays and over requires you to sit at least 15 feet away from the screen so again bear that in mind when considering which room you are likely to put your Panasonic plasma in.
