Buying Guide - Brother Printers

Introduction

Brother is a worldwide manufacturing and electronics company, originally founded in Japan over 100 years ago, and selling in over 100 countries. Their products include printers, All-in-One printers, fax machines, A3-Inkjet printers, mobile printers, labelling and wireless printers. Brother printers are a very successful range and are ideal for both for home and business use. All homes and offices, which use a computer, can benefit from a Brother printer. They come in all price ranges, with various features, and all produce professional quality printing.

When buying a printer you need to think about what you’re going to use the printer for. Do you want to just print document with it, or do you want to use it for scanning, faxing and copying too, in which case you would be better off with an All-in-One printer, as this can be cheaper than buying a printer, scanner and copier separately.

Brother has colour laser printers, mono laser printers, label printers, mobile printers, inkjet printers, duplex printers, and the All-in-One printers. A duplex printer is a printer which allows printing on both sides of the paper. Mono printers only use black ink, so they can be faster.

Brother printers are environmentally friendly, energy efficient, long lasting, and easy to recycle. Their products have world leading green credentials that use less energy, last longer and are easy to recycle. Their duplex printing range allowing use of both sides of paper also allow you to print pre-paid labels to post back your used products for recycling.

Let’s look specifically at Brother printers, Brother printer drivers, Brother A3 printers, and Brother laser printers.

Brother printer types

The first Brother printer we’ll look at is the label printer. These come in various models such as the QL-560, QL-650TD or QL-580N. The QL-560 is a Thermal Label printer. It has continuous printing, so you can print labels all in one go rather than one at a time, prints 56 labels a minute, and has direct thermal technology to reduce toner, ribbon and ink costs. It also has integrated Brother P-touch technology which allows you to customise and create original layouts for labels.

The QL-650TD Brother printer is a versatile label printer and has a compact space-saving size taking up less room on your desk. This prints 68 labels per minute and is network-ready, ideal for sharing and printing when away from your pc. It is perfect for printing address and shipping labels.

The QL-580N is a Professional Network Label printer which supports barcode printing and has a 68 labels per minute speed. These also have the Brother P-touch technology and direct thermal technology.

Moving on to Brother A3 printers: these colour A3 multifunction printers allow you to copy, print, fax and scan all from one device. The MFC-J6510DW model is a Brother A3 printer that is a wireless ready, all-in-one A3 inkjet printer. It can copy, scan and fax up to A3 size documents and can be set to automatic double sided printing. It has a 6000 dpi print resolution which produces crisp quality printing. It has faster Wi-Fi connection with the latest 802.11n wireless technology and can connect to a network via a built-in ethernet or to a pc via a USB cable. Photos can be enhanced with the 8.3cm TFT LCD screen. You can choose how to connect with built-in Media Card, PictBridge and USB Host options. It has 19200x19200dpi scan resolution, a scan to PDF feature, hi-speed faxing, free iPhone, iPad and Android apps available. It also comes with a 250 sheet tray with 35 sheet automatic document feeder, individual inks that keep costs down by allowing you to replace only the ones that have run out and free document management software. It can print up to 2400 pages with a high yield ink option and has a special media tray for printing up to 285g/m2.

The MFC-J6710DW model has all the features of the previous printer but with a 500 sheet tray. It can fax, print, scan and copy, and also allows you to create your own A4 brochures to reduce outsourcing costs. The MFC-J6910DW is another Brother A3 printer with the same features but with 192MB memory. With Brother printers you can request print samples so you can see the quality of the printing too.

Brother laser printers are low cost machines with state of the art technology. The HL-2130 and HL-2132 are compact mono laser Brother printers that are perfect for a small office. They have a low cost and compact footprint, and a fast 20 page per minute speed, with the first page out in less than 10 seconds.

The HL-2240 High Speed Mono Brother laser printer has an even faster 24 page per minute speed and high yield toners to get the most out of your ink. The HL-2240D High Speed Mono laser printer with Duplex has a 26 pages per minute fast speed with double-sided and booklet printing, which can cut paper cost 50% and 75% respectively.

Another Brother laser printer is the HL-2250DN High Speed Mono Laser Duplex Network printer. This has a 26 page per minute speed and is network-ready making it easy to share. Double-sided printer and individual printer inks also make it economical. All Brother printers are energy star compliant and also offer peace of mind with free 12 month warranties and lifetime technical support.

Looking at some of the All-in-One Brother printers, we start with the DCP-9010CN. This has a mono and colour print speed of 16 pages per minute and is compact enough to fit on a desk making it ideal for a small office. It is network-ready and has a large 250 sheet tray with colour restriction to limit costs. The MFC-9120CN Brother printer has brilliantly fast colour and mono printing, scanning and copying in a compact design. Secure Print also protects confidentiality. If you want a fast wireless colour All-in-One printer the MFC-9320CW Brother printer could be what you’re looking for. This printer won the IF Product Design Award 2010.

Printer drivers

If you’re looking for Brother printer drivers, their Driver Deployment Wizard is an easy way of installing printer drivers onto multiple PCs quickly. It means that Brother printer drivers with customised settings can be installed with the click of a mouse instead of someone from IT manually configuring each PC in an office individually. Using the Wizard you can create a file containing new Brother printer drivers to be installed, which can then be sent by e-mail to all users needing the drivers, who then just have to click on the link sent to install the drivers.

Other accessories such as battery packs, network cards, stabilizers, paper guides, stands, cables, adaptors, chargers, cases, cleaning rollers, paper trays, printer cabinets, mailboxes for stacking/sorting and tape cutters are also readily available from Brother.
