Combo TV DVD players are perfect if you want to take your entertainment beyond the living room and into other rooms in your house. They are popular in bedrooms, kids’ rooms and even go well in the kitchen if you want a bit of entertainment while you are cooking.

They are compacts units and fit nicely on a bedroom table leaving space for you to work around while cutting down on messy wires with a TV with built in DVD player. Another reason why these combo units are so popular is because they are quick and simple to set-up and as the DVD player is integrated into the TV you don’t have to buy any SCART leads or connectors to hook the models up. Combo TV DVD players can save you money too and there is a wide choice on the market to suit different tastes and budgets.

Types of combo TV DVDs

The first decision to make is which type of combo you want. The more affordable option is the CRT TV DVD combo and these are generally easy to use and easy to move around which is handy if you are at university and constantly need to lug your TV back home in the holidays. This would also be a good choice for a spare room that will only be occasionally used. Some models only offer mono sound, though.

The newer type of combo unit is the LCD TV DVD player. The thin LCD flat panel makes the units a lot thinner than CRT models and they also look more modern and trendy. If you want a combo for the main television in your house then you can find a large sized display to suit your needs. But, these combo units are more popular in smaller sizes, and they start at 19 inches – which is light, portable and perfect for a bedroom. Another advantage of the LCD TV DVD player is you can choose between freestanding models or wall mounted. The wall mounting option can be really handy if you don’t have enough table space and it also makes the room look modern and tidy.

Additional features

Once you have decided on which type best suits you there are plenty of added features to look out for. The LCD TV DVD player models can come HD ready which means they offer excellent 720p resolution high definition image quality. If you are planning on using your gaming console with your TV then you will have to check the model has console input and some brands, like the Toshiba combo DVD TV players, have enhanced gaming modes. You will also need a model with one or two SCART sockets – so you can connect up other devices such as your free box.
