You can integrate old Canon lenses with the 400D if you have them and the image quality is great. The standard lens kit is more than ample to start out with. It was a very slow progress for me from 'wet film' through a compact Pentax digital to the Canon. Having operated the film version Canon EOS for a number of years I found the transition seamless. The controls are intuitive but the instruction book is superb for anything you need help with. That I can continue to use the 28 - 70 mm and 75 - 300 mm lens is simply wonderful. As a keen aviator... The facility to use the canon lenses I had, from my early SLR, days gave me a most versatile piece of kit.
