Summary: The Panasonic TX-P42S30 may have a plain Jane design, but as soon as its pictures flicker into life, it's clear that this really is a star budget performer, thanks to its smooth motion handling, excellent contrast performance and stunning colour...

Conclusion: The design might not exactly be beautiful and its menus can look a little old-fashioned, but where it counts -- picture quality -- you really will struggle to find another TV at this price that delivers such rich and engaging pictures.

Conclusion: While the P42S30 isn’t as stand-out brilliant as so many other TVs in Panasonic’s 2011 range, if you can run it in a reasonably low-light environment it’s still better than you've a right to expect for its money.
