Very slim and lightweight compared to the previous LCD and other plasma screens of the same size. 3D system is excellent and we love the 2D to 3D conversion, and despite what others say, it works over wide angles in our living room. Picture quality is great in HD, and does a good job with standard digital tranmissions.
Bad Points
SMART TV functions are just not that smart. The web browser is useless for most modern websites using Flash content - this is a massive disappointment and LG have really messed up what would be a brilliant tv. The fact you can't use the USB to plug in a wireless keyboard is really annoying as typing web addresses with the remote is really frustratingly slow. The content for BBC iplayer does not seem to be the same as that via the BBC website. The Plex media connectivity software is hopeless, fails to find any of the devices in my house, but this is a small niggle as it's easy to plug in a 500GB external hard drive.

      6 out of 10

Summary: The LG 42LW550T is a 42-inch passive 3D LED television also displays full high definition pictures. It comes with seven pairs of glasses that deliver two separate images to each eye to give the illusion of a 3D image. It features Freeview HD built-in,...

Conclusion: The LG 42LW550T is capable of displaying images with a genuine sense of 3D but its pictures failed to get us excited.

Pro : At a little over £560, the LG 42LW550T is an affordable option for those dying to hop on the 3D TV bandwagon. The LG 42LW550T may be a bargain but it still performs admirably

Cons : However, as impressive as the 3D tech is, the images aren’t enough to excite. The LG 42LW550T lacks the ‘wow’ factor that other high-end 3D TVs have. The LG 42LW550T has a high standard to live up to, but doesn’t quite reach it

      6 out of 10

Conclusion: The LG LW550T television only just misses out on a four-star rating because it can't quite deliver the same image quality as its big brother the LG LW650S. That doesn't take away from the fact that it's a great 3D TV.

Pro : Attractive results in 2D and 3D ; Accurate colours: average deltaE of 3.1 ; Light, comfortable passive 3D glasses ; Matte display (so not many reflections) and low energy consumption (90 W) ; One of the best LCD 3D TVs: not much crosstalk and less...

Cons : Contrast ratio not quite perfect (1005:1) ; More crosstalk visibile thanon a plasma 3D TV ; Media player doesn't support M2TS or MTS files

      9 out of 10

Summary: LG's 42LW550T proves definitively that passive 3D technology really does have a major role to play in today's 3D TV world

Conclusion: The 42LW550T certainly isn’t perfect; there are plenty of areas where LG can improve things with its 2012 passive 3D range, and its key 3D reduced resolution issue isn’t going to disappear. But crucially, the 42LW550T’s smaller size does a handy job of...

Pro : Seven 3D glasses included for free ; 3D viewing is comfortable and sociable ; Excellent multimedia functionality

Cons : full HD 3D not as detailed as on active 3D screens ; Very limited vertical viewing angle ; Uninspiring audio

Summary: LG's latest ?Cinema 3D? TV is a good effort, but it doesn?t scream ?class-leader?

Pro : Good 3D picture; seven pairs of glasses included; vibrant picture; good black levels

Cons : Not the most confident with motion or edge definition; struggles with iPlayer
