      10 out of 10

Summary: If you're after a machine to play Battlefield 3, Skyrim and Modern Warfare 3, look no further. The Asus G74S is a mammoth gaming laptop, which has the power to play all the latest titles.

      8 out of 10

Summary: Asus' latest gaming laptop retains that familar matte-black plastic chassis while the hardware gets refreshed with Intel's quad-core CPU and high-end Nvidia graphics.

Conclusion: The US$2,000 configuration of the Asus G74SX feels a bit too expensivetous, but the less-pricey US$1,500 version could be a solid gamingchoice, especially as Asus has a good rep for gaming laptops. True high-endgamers will want something a bit more...

Pro : Gamer-friendly components in an understated case; large 160GB SSD; plenty of RAM

Cons : Some parts feel cheap despite the high price; higher-end boutique laptops beat it on performance

      7 out of 10

Summary: After a season of wafer-thin ultrabooks and pocket-sized ultraportables, there's nothing quite like a giant desktop-replacement gaming rig. Despite making a name for itself with the original Eee PC Netbook and the new Zenbook, Asus has always had a...

Conclusion: Asus has built a very nice sideline over the years with its gaming laptops, including the G74SX, which is a strong, if expensive, quad-core rig that works fine, but looks like it should cost less.

Pro : The Asus G74SX packs gamer-friendly components into an understated case, and includes a large 160GB SSD and plenty of RAM

Cons : It's very expensive, while some parts still feel cheap, and higher-end boutique laptops beat it on performance

      8 out of 10

Conclusion: The G74SX is a good laptop marred by painful concessions — namely the awful trackpad, cheap speakers and droves of crapware. All of these things can be overcome by the user spending more time and money, but we sure wish this wasn't the case.

Pro : High level performance ; More RAM than you can poke a stick at ; 3GB on a video card? Is that even necessary ; Easy access panel for upgrading

Cons : Terrible Sentelic touch pad makes a return ; Bad quality speakers considering the size of the laptop ; Voluminous amounts of crapware
