While the retail market is in free fall

By Anonymous (15/01/2009)

While the retail market is in free fall for the diy sector, B&Q sees fit to spend millions on new uniforms for 36k plus employees.
It makes one wonder who got a commission for such a huge order...manufactured in china.
New apron, new t-shirt, new trousers, and new jacket.

By the way, the apron must be worn over the jacket, hence making employees look like utter fools.

Of the highest quality polyester, all of it. In a work environment where a lot of physical activities takes place, naturally the choice of fabric has to be polyester and not cotton.

Another great example of B&Q management - spending millions when it could have been injected into the business to make the stores more decent looking.

And of course, we do absolutely need 380 HR people in each and every store when it could have been done through a regional office.

That's 532,000 monthly in salaries. 6384000 pounds yearly.

Business sense at B&Q.

But yes...the people driving the business, i.e, shop floor staffs, checkouts, and replenishment are paid a paltry 5.71 per hour.

Nicely done B&Q. I'm sure the shareholders are very much approving of these business practices.

Makes one wonder if any at B&Q holds an MBA or degree in Economics. I guess not.
