      Nikon D300

Review summary: The Nikon D200 was a truly great camera that offered professional performance at an enthusiast's price. Even now, its 10-megapixel CCD sensor can easily hold its own compared with similarly-priced rivals, and the robust build quality was - and still is -

Pros: Excellent specification, Fantastic performance, Solid build

Cons: Vague navipad, Very expensive next to its rivals, Bulky

Verdict: There's no doubt that the image quality is stunning, but the D300 is also heavy, pricey and sophisticated to the point of being overpowering. And, with the arrival of Nikon's full-frame pro SLR, the D3, can you justify investing in the smaller DX

      Nikon D300

      By Andrew Kliem

Pros: Brilliant detail, good colour balance, low noise, great detail in shadows, LCD looks wonderful

Review summary: The Nikon D300 is the successor to the hugely popular D200 DSLR camera, and Nikon certainly haven't rested on their laurels, adding a veritable wealth of features to their new mid-range model. Aimed at the pro photographer on a budget, or the keen amateur

Verdict: Despite the fact that the Nikon D300 requires a fair bit of familiarisation to make use of all its on-board features â?? simply because there are so many functions you can tweak and customize to the nth degree â?? if required you can be up and shooting fr

Review summary: It's not surprising to learn the Nikon D300 is a highly capable semi-professional DSLR which succeeds in both traditional respects and the latest gadgetry. Like its predecessor the build quality and ergonomics are superb and while the look and feel are su

Pros: Tough build and superb ergonomics., Quick 51-point AF and 6fps shooting., 3in VGA screen with Live View., 14-bit RAW and broad customisation.,

Cons: 12 Mpixels not a major boost over 10., No self-timer or histogram in Live View., Anti-dust not effective in our tests., PC control software not bundled.

Verdict: There's no denying the Nikon D300 is a highly capable DSLR which will delight enthusiasts and satisfy the demands of pros looking for a backup or 'budget' body. Certainly no-one does ergonomics like Nikon and despite a handful of annoyances, it's also the
