      MacBook Core 2 Duo 2.1GHz

      Review summary: Apple have recently made significant improvements to the MacBook range.

      Pros: Performance boost, larger hard drives than previous model, 2GB RAM on higher-end models

      Cons: No video adapters or Apple Remote in the box, no SuperDrive and only 1GB RAM on entry level model, still a hefty premium on Black model

      Verdict: The 2.1GHz MacBook is a capable system, but for £130 more you can get a faster processor, bigger hard drive, SuperDrive, and an extra 1GB of RAM.

      Apple MacBook 2.2GHz

      Review summary: Apple has updated its hot selling MacBook range. Externally, the new MacBooks are identical to the mid-2007 models, except for minor changes to the keyboard. It's under the surface, though, where the real changes have taken place.

      Pros: Improved graphics card, Takes RAM up to 4GB, Santa Rosa chipset, Longer battery life, Competitive pricing

      Cons: No antiglare screen option

      Verdict: A useful range of significant updates, particularly the changed graphics engine and arrival of Santa Rosa

      Verdict: The top-priced black 2.2GHz MacBook (£949) also has a 2.2GHz processor and SuperDrive but a larger 160GB hard drive. All hard drives are 5,400rpm Serial ATA spec. Optional extras include expanding the drive size on any model to 250GB and extending the RAM
