Pros: 50-sheet, duplexing ADF and 35-mm transparency adaptor are standard. Handles OCR well. Better slide scan quality than most flatbeds.
Cons: No batch scanning. Transparency adaptor is external, rather than an integral part of the unit. Lacks feature for removing scratches or dust from image.
Verdict: The HP Scanjet 5590 is clearly designed for business use, with a 50-sheet, duplexing ADF to make quick work of scanning, faxing, and copying multipage documents, at least compared to most other desktop flatbed scanner It also scans photos and 35-mm slides
