Chief Marketing Officer


Job Description

Reporting to the CEO, the main purpose of the role is to provide the strategy, management and execution of Kelkoo's Marketing. The role will be responsible for all of Kelkoo's Marketing Execution.   


Key tasks to include:

  • Create, develop and execute a strong vision for marketing as a strategic asset for Kelkoo whilst delivering short term marketing wins.
  • Design, present and deliver a forward thinking, stimulating marketing strategy encompassing both on- and off-line activities across all aspects of the marketing mix.
  • Ensure the marketing functional resources are developed, leveraged and shared in a manner that continually enhances overall ROI, with a specific focus on branding, PR, thought leadership content & creation, marketing communications, events, email, mobile web and interactive marketing.
  • Be the brand guardian providing clear strategic direction for each category, country and function internally as well as externally from a customer and merchant perspective.
  • Be instrumental in driving the boardroom agenda demonstrating creative, strategic and commercial value of all activities.
  • Recruit, manage, mentor, develop and retain a highly effective yet compact marketing team to run Kelkoo's efforts across Europe.
  • Develop an effective on- and off-line strategy with all key stake holders including other executives, sales and country leaders.

Requirements (including qualifications & educational background; technical/functional knowledge & skills - both essential and desired; experience)

Skills & Experience:

  • Proven track record of build a credible, enduring and profitable brand on an international scale, possibly where being 'safe' would have been too risky.
  • High level of international e-commerce / online marketing experience gained through online channel of a 'traditional' Retail, Travel (aggregator) or FMCG company or online, consumer-facing product where eMarketing strategies have been executed.
  • First-hand experience of leading a first class marketing team within a pan-European business, preferably through a period of rapid growth, including new country launches.
  • Demonstrable track record of owning the marketing budget and driving innovation of a brand across multiple territories by delivering a differentiating product or service resulting in an increase in profitability and shareholder value for the company.
  • Will be an engaging marketer with experience of a Multi Channel Marketing approach to attract and engage with customers on Kelkoo's website.
  • Will have proven track record of developing innovative yet cost effective campaigns in an entrepreneurial environment.
  • Experience of having worked with a relatively small team initially with limited budget and support staff would be ideal.
  • Experience managing online marketing tools and services, including analytics programs.
  • Demonstrated successful experience of brand and product management within a pan-European B2B2C business
  • Experience of delivering to budget.
  • Would have gained a solid track record of building up and maintaining International (ideally pan-European) as well as regional PR programmes for a fast paced company.

  • Genuine team player with cross functional involvement and the presence to successfully influence decision making on a strategic and tactical basis.
  • Strong ability to effectively manage relationships at all levels both internally and externally.
  • Exceptional leadership skills demonstrating a solid track record in recruiting and developing good people whilst also having a team player mentality.
  • Highly organized and will posses innate ability to multi task and prioritise, ensuring capability to work at a detailed level while keeping an eye on the macro environment.
  • Hold strong organisational and time management skills and be skilled at working within a matrix environment.

 

Qualifications:

  • BA or BS degree in business or other relevant fields, MBA a plus.
  • A high level of commercial acumen and a natural affinity with the CEO coupled with innovative thinking- the CMO must find practical solutions.
  • Will be able to prove a history of taking the initiative and solving business problems in a creative manner.
  • Be exceptionally smart and be able to leverage analytics to drive marketing efforts
  • Strong analytical ability to assess and 'feel' data and business processes.
  • Multi-faceted personality and be equally comfortable defining a high level strategic vision for the brand coupled with grass-roots, detail orientated delivery of short term objectives for example SEO activities.
  • Must be able to provide clear strategic and creative input to all levels of the business, as well as being highly focused on strong processes and procedures.
